More of a project than a band, therefore undying.
My friend, Crystal, said to me one day, “I like to hear you play solo and acoustically, sometimes more than I like the Straight Eights.” So, I decided to make a acoustic album.
But, wouldn’t you know it, having planned to do this cover album of acoustic songs and just leave it at that, I eventually started recording some original songs that didn’t quite fit into the Straight Eights blueprint for one reason or another. And then I started putting more layers than just acoustic guitar and voice. And then I kept putting more layers. And then I asked my friend Jason Misik to play some drums for it. And then I asked my other friend Joe Evans to play some keyboards on it.
I sent out the recordings to Joe, who was living in Seattle at the time, and he sent them back and it was good. Jason diligently slaved over the drums and it was good. I got Jason to sing a little, too.
Then, a year after the project started it was finally done and the Lostters were here. The songs are a little softer and a little thicker than some of the other recent stuff. I did record several covers after all and they’re here, but they didn’t appear on the album.
